It’s that time again folks! The Great British Bake Off will be back on our screens later this month allowing us all to indulge in the trials and tribulations of another set of novice bakers.
In baking there are no guarantees. Will my loaf rise? Have I over whipped the cream? Did I put salt in the sponge instead of sugar? But with Bake Off, we are guaranteed some amazing creations, and inventive ideas sure to inspire us all to rudely awaken those scales which have remained dormant at the back of the cupboard for the past 12 months!
Although called “The Great British Bake Off”, you can’t help but notice that many of the challenges are influenced by recipes overseas. No country more so than France. With this in mind, we have selected three of our favourites GBBO recipes from across the channel to recreate with the help of St. Dalfour Preserves. This is… The Great French Bake Off with St. Dalfour!
The Signature Bake
Madeleines are small cakes originating from northeastern France. Madeleines are very small sponge cakes with a distinctive shell-like shape formed by the special baking tray Madeleines are commonly baked in. Enjoy them plain, dip them in chocolate or even add a fruity filling! That’s where St. Dalfour can help. Why not pick your favourite St. Dalfour Preserve to transform your Madeleines into the tasty treats you desire. If you’re feeling extra naughty, why not fill with our Raspberry or Strawberry Preserve and finish by dipping half the cake in chocolate. Devilishly delicious!
The Technical Challenge
Couronne, meaning Crown, is a sweet, glazed bread stuffed with apricots, walnuts and raisins. It’s the perfect tea time treat the whole family can get stuck into. It’s distinctive circular form makes it perfect for a ‘tear and share’ meal created for socialising. Although traditionally stuffed with Apricots and raisins, why not transform this traditional french recipe with a traditional french recipe of our own? We recommend our St. Dalfour Pineapple & Mango Preserve to add a tropical note to this traditional classic.
The Show Stopper
Choux au Craquelin
Choux au Craquelin is a dessert made with traditional choux pastry. The pastry is then filled with flavoured cream and finished with a light sugary glaze. Although tradition has it that the cream filling is sympathetically flavoured, often vanilla, there are some bakers who opt to add a fruity twist. We like these bakers! To the cream filling you can fold in any of your favourite St. Dalfour Preserves. Keep it traditional with our St. Dalfour Blackberry Preserve, or even create something new with our latest flavour, St. Dalfour Strawberry & Rhubarb Preserve. The possibilities are endless with the range of flavours on offer from St. Dalfour.
